Will the guards guard themselves when they are told a Noble lie ? Or would they wreck havoc with the powers they believe to posses?
If we were to consider the United Nations Security Council as the peace keeper among nations, then 5 permanent members who have the prerogative to veto are the guardians of the world.
To try the war criminals who are responsible for the atrocities going on in this world, the International Court of Justice was established in the year 2002 by the Rome Statute of the International Court
The Court may only exercise jurisdiction if:
- The accused is a national of a State Party or a State otherwise accepting the jurisdiction of the Court;
- The crime took place on the territory of a State Party or a State otherwise accepting the jurisdiction of the Court; or
- The United Nations Security Council has referred the situation to the Prosecutor, irrespective of the nationality of the accused or the location of the crime.
At a glance, it is apparent that there is a problem. The USA did not accept the jurisdiction of the court (Violating the first condition). Although it is still possible to bring the United States to the ICC by a referral from the United Nations Security Council, it seems to be highly unlikely as the USA has the power to veto.
Other than that, how do we bring Omar al-Bashir to the ICC?
Okay, enough of the "Justice" talk. (I guess that we're all fed up and have heard enough)
Time to study debating.
Oh, and...
Did you know that an authorised ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) personnel can enter and leave the Guantanamo Bay for humanitarian purposes?
However, he/she can't do the same when it comes to our Kamunting Detention Centre (ISA detainees)
Ironic isn't it?
